Mission & Vision
The Peace Education and Action Center will serve as a resource center for educators, youth and families on topics related to justice, peacemaking, and nonviolence. The Center will build a stronger community by providing youth and adults with the tools, strategies, and experiences needed to honor differences and resolve conflicts peacefully.
The Peace Education and Action Center will nurture the ever-growing circles of peacemakers in a unifying approach to end violence and build a culture of peace in Sarasota and beyond. The Center will partner with individuals and organizations to offer a wide range of training and educational programs promoting alternatives to violence. The Center will build community and relationships focused on a vision of peace in this time and place and for future generations.
We envision a community where every school has a sustainable, comprehensive peace education program; where every child is valued and respected; where every person has the skills necessary to interact compassionately with their family and friends; where people of different races, religion, class and gender come together to share food and stories; where a culture of peace replaces our current culture of fear, violence and domination.
The Center works to create a just and peaceful world through:
1. The promotion of peace studies within universities, colleges and K-12 grade levels.
2. The forging of alliances among educators, students, activists, and other peace practitioners in order to enhance each other's work on conflict resolution, non-violence, and peacemaking.
3. The creation and nurturing of alternatives to structures of inequality and injustice, war and violence through education, research and action.
Currently, the Peace Education and Action Center:
* Maintains an active library of materials related to peace and peace education, nonviolence, social justice, diversity and environmental sustainability
* Maintains a website with current relevant information and links to other organizations
* Distributes a monthly e-newsletter
* Sponsors educational, musical and cultural events, sometimes in collaboration with other community groups
* Sponsors workshops and community dialogues on a variety of timely issues with particular emphasis on the skills and philosophy of nonviolence and building a Culture of Peace

Our office is located at the Sarasota Friends Meetinghouse, 3139 57th Street, Sarasota (At the intersection of Lockwood Ridge Road and 57th Street, just South of University Parkway.
