Sarasota Anti-Racism Working Group

The Sarasota Anti-Racism Working Group grew out of a series of community dialogues titled, “Engaging Race, Understanding Racism: A Community Dialogue Series,” which took place in 2018 at the Peace Education and Action Center. As part of this dialogue series, forty individuals from Sarasota and Manatee Counties participated in an Undoing Racism workshop that the People's Institute for Survival and Beyond facilitated. After this workshop, many of the participants decided to keep the group going by forming the anti-racism working group. Learning, laughing and struggling together, we’ve worked to create opportunities for our community to understand how race and racism impacts the life chances and outcomes of every single person in Sarasota and Manatee counties and how we might change this.

We specifically work to empower individuals and institutions to dismantle racism through education and community organizing. We seek to strengthen our community by transforming relationships and systems to ensure racial justice and deepen our understanding of our mutual humanity.
